On May 10, 2016 in “Central” hotel in Sofia a Discussion Forum “For socially responsible and sustainable transport development” was held. The forum has been organized by the Federation of Transport Trade Unions in Bulgaria (FTTUB) and “Friedrich Ebert” Foundation. On April 26, 2016 at the headquarters of FTTUB in Sofia was held a sectoral meeting of the trade unions in the aviation sector. Presidents, secretaries and activists from the structures in Burgas, Varna, Gorna Oryahovica and Sofia gathered there.
FTTUB aviation union members are more than 2000 and since 43rd ITF Congress which took place in 2014 in Sofia and became the most significant trade union event in Bulgaria, their number has been constantly increasing.
The meeting was opened by Antonia Panayotova, Expert “International Cooperation” and FTTUB officer in charge of civil aviation unions, who made a report of the activities of FTTUB on international, European and national level for the past 2015 and presented before the audience the global trends in civil aviation and their impact on aviation workers all over the world. “I am proud of being a woman,” declared the EU Commissioner for transport Violeta Bulc at the one-day conference “Women in Transport” organized by the European Commission on April 21 this year in Brussels. The participants were also addressed by Ines Ayala Sender, member of the Transport Committee of the European Parliament. Besides institutions, representatives of social partners, NGOs, research and marketing environments took part to the event. On behalf of FTTUB there were Daniela Zlatkova, member of the Women’s Committee of the European Transport Workers Federation and Mila Nikolova, expert on gender equality policies.

On April 9 activists from “Inland waterways” section of the Federation of Transport Trade Unions of Bulgaria / FTTUB / together with volunteers distributed nearly 200 copies of the Open letter (link) from Nick Bramley, President of ETF`s and ITF`s respective section among passengers on cruise trips in Europe. On March 17 and 18, a conference on “Possibilities offered by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) to support social dialogue in fisheries and the improvement of living and working conditions” took place in The Hague. The event was held within the project Towards a true socially sustainable EU Fishery: the contribution of EU social partners. It was attended by representatives of the Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee members – ETF and Europeche, the European Commission’s DG Mare and Farnet, DG Employment and the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs. On March 8, the FTTUB President Ekaterina Yordanova attended the Women’s Conference of the French confederation FGTE. She returned the visit from the FTTUB last year’s National Women’s Conference to Valerie Latron, international representative of the French Transport workers’ Federation FGTE. Прочети още
On March 8, in the FTTUB premises, a meeting gathered representatives of the Women’s Committee from Sofia trade unions. IWD was celebrated with an “ETF and ITF for women” presentation delivered by Daniela Zlatkova, member of the ETF WsC. On the eve of the ETF congress in 2017 and midterm period of the International Transport Federation, highlights from programs for women of both organizations have been recalled. The activities of FTTUB on the implementation of its program were also reviewed. Mila Nikolova, gender equality expert, presented the current agenda of themes and events in the field for 2016 at national, European and global level. In this context the participants discussed ideas for action within the FTTUB WsC. They will be proposed at the regular session of the FTTUB WsC next month.
Ahead of the European Commission ‘Week for Women Working in Transport’ and in the light of the International Women’s Day on 8 March, the European Transport Workers’ Federation (ETF) asks the legislator to address the real causes preventing women to take more jobs in this industry.
From 18 to 24 April the European Commission (EC) will launch the European Week for Women Working in Transport and organise a major event on the topic on 21 April. The ETF welcomes the EC initiative, acknowledging the unprecedented interest taken by DG MOVE in talking the underrepresentation of women in the industry. To make the process effective, the European Commission will however have to keep labour and employment conditions at the core of its endeavour to improve female participation in transport sectors.
