Protest of European railway workers on the 4th railway package


Today, October 8, the European Ministers of Transport meet in Luxembourg to discuss and possibly adopt a common approach on the political pillar of the 4th railway package. On this occasion and within the ITF’s Action week under the motto “Transport workers fighting back! Congress days in Paris: Day four (final)

This day was devoted to organizational issues and to introspection. In this day the results of the elections for a new leadership of the ETUC were announced (for more information, see the ETUC website). The new President’s name is Rudy De Leeuw, Belgium and the new Secretary General is Luke Visentini, Italy. After the announcement of the results, he launched a debate on the role of the ETUC in which leaders of affiliate national unions expressed their views. Among them was the President of CITUB Plamen Dimitrov. A declaration was adopted as the basis for the future action plan.
The Congress was officially closed with applause and music.
The Executive Committee met to elect a new Steering Group and two vice presidents.
The day ended with a press conference at which the ETUC reported the Congress outcomes to the media and the general public.

ETF launches a set of proposals to improve EU law enforcement in road transport


On 29 September 2015, the ETF has launched its concept to improve EU law enforcement in road transport at an event bringing together EU Member States, European Commission services and partner organisations. Congress days in Paris: Day two


The beginning of the second day was dedicated to another important topic – the women participation and representation in union governance. Struggling for equality, trade unions should start from themselves. An ETUC resolution on this issue was adopted. The President of FTTUB and Vice President of the Women’s Committee of ETUC Ekaterina Yordanova was among the official guests on the stage. 13th Congress of the ETUC


Today in Paris starts the 13th Congress of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC). It will be attended by nearly 500 voting delegates and another 200 without the right to vote, representing 90 national trade unions from 40 countries. They will be joined by reps of 10 more federations and other trade union structures. The discussions, brought together in four main panels will continue four days. The Congress will vote the Theme Paris Manifesto, the new Working Programme 2015 – 2019 and some resolutions. Elections will be held for a new President, Secretary General, 2 deputies, 4 Confederate Secretaries and 5 auditors. Прочети още

Global ITF campaign in support of sacked activists at Gdansk port


A global campaign is being launched in support of Maciek Konopka and his colleagues at Deepwater Container Terminal (DCT) Gdansk as union-busting activity by management reaches new heights. First victory for staff rights at Qatar Airways

The ITF (International Transport Workers’ Federation) is celebrating the first victory for staff rights at Qatar Airways (QR) after the airline admitted that it has removed its contractual pregnancy and marriage prohibitions. These demanded that anyone becoming pregnant had to notify management, at which point she would be likely to lose her job, and forbade marriage for five years (even after that time permission had to be sought to marry).
