On 14 and 15 December the Executive Committee of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) held its last meeting for the year. Ekaterina Yordanova – president of the Federation of Transport Trade Unions in Bulgaria, national representative and vice president of the Women’s Committee of ETUC, was represented by her deputy Mila Nikolova. On behalf of the Women’s Committee she urged the Executive to implement the 2015 Paris Congress decision on parity in the representation of both genders in the ETUC bodies. Прочети още

Bulgarian input to the ETUC project “Safe at Home, Safe at Work”

Violence against women in the workplace and the acts of domestic violence with all their impact on working life are the two main focus areas of the research within the project of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) “Safe at Home, Safe at work”. The President of FTTUB Ekaterina Yordanova, vice president of the ETUC Women’s Committee is a member of the steering group once again. The project covers 11 EU countries and Bulgaria is one of them.

Why women do not take more jobs in transport

Ahead of the European Commission ‘Week for Women Working in Transport’ and in the light of the International Women’s Day on 8 March, the European Transport Workers’ Federation (ETF) asks the legislator to address the real causes preventing women to take more jobs in this industry.

From 18 to 24 April the European Commission (EC) will launch the European Week for Women Working in Transport and organise a major event on the topic on 21 April. The ETF welcomes the EC initiative, acknowledging the unprecedented interest taken by DG MOVE in talking the underrepresentation of women in the industry. To make the process effective, the European Commission will however have to keep labour and employment conditions at the core of its endeavour to improve female participation in transport sectors. Once again FTTUB supported the initiative of the European Commission for Equal Pay Day

This year, DG “Justice” of European Commission has announced 2 November for Equal Pay Day. The remaining 59 days (over 16%) from this day till the end of the year comprise the period women work for “free”, as it corresponds to what women in Europe gain less in payment for their work than men.
The Equal Pay Day has been marked by different activities that FTTUB delivered from the very beginning of the initiative in 2011.The Federation constantly underlines the gravity of the issue with its long-term impact, e.g. the pension pay gap, at a later stage of the life cycle.The focus of the 2015 campaign was put on the final report of the “Gender Pay Gap in transport” project. WORLD DAY FOR DECENT WORK

The date 7 October was chosen in 2008 by the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) to mark the World Day for Decent Work. Since then this day is celebrated in more than 130 countries worldwide. The term “decent work” was introduced by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and has become a focus of the industrial relations.
On this date millions of trade unionists bring together their actions and efforts to achieve a fair income, security in the workplace and social protection for their families. Прочети още

Today, October 5, in the frame of the election campaign for local government in the capital of Bulgaria, was signed an agreement between the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) and the candidate of GERB political party and current Mayor of Sofia Mrs. Yordanka Fandakova.

The agreement is an expression of the accumulated positive experience, built mutual trust and predictability of social partners’ actions and their will to preserve, strengthen and build upon the achievements during the next term. Прочети още

First victory for staff rights at Qatar Airways

The ITF (International Transport Workers’ Federation) is celebrating the first victory for staff rights at Qatar Airways (QR) after the airline admitted that it has removed its contractual pregnancy and marriage prohibitions. These demanded that anyone becoming pregnant had to notify management, at which point she would be likely to lose her job, and forbade marriage for five years (even after that time permission had to be sought to marry).
