The beginning of the second day was dedicated to another important topic – the women participation and representation in union governance. Struggling for equality, trade unions should start from themselves. An ETUC resolution on this issue was adopted. The President of FTTUB and Vice President of the Women’s Committee of ETUC Ekaterina Yordanova was among the official guests on the stage. She is an inspirational example of fruitful career and successful implementation of the gender balance principle in practice within the FTTUB. Прочети още

13th Congress of the ETUC

Today in Paris starts the 13th Congress of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC). It will be attended by nearly 500 voting delegates and another 200 without the right to vote, representing 90 national trade unions from 40 countries. They will be joined by reps of 10 more federations and other trade union structures. The discussions, brought together in four main panels will continue four days. The Congress will vote the Theme Paris Manifesto, the new Working Programme 2015 – 2019 and some resolutions. Elections will be held for a new President, Secretary General, 2 deputies, 4 Confederate Secretaries and 5 auditors. Прочети още

First victory for staff rights at Qatar Airways

The ITF (International Transport Workers’ Federation) is celebrating the first victory for staff rights at Qatar Airways (QR) after the airline admitted that it has removed its contractual pregnancy and marriage prohibitions. These demanded that anyone becoming pregnant had to notify management, at which point she would be likely to lose her job, and forbade marriage for five years (even after that time permission had to be sought to marry). ILO finds Qatar guilty

Geneva-based United Nations agency the ILO (International Labour Organization) today found Qatar guilty of allowing its state-owned airline, Qatar Airways, to violate international and national agreements and institutionalise discrimination. The case was successfully brought against Qatar by the ITF (International Transport Workers’ Federation) and the ITUC (International Trade Union Confederation). FTTUB’s President Ekaterina Yordanova took part in the charity for 24 May, the Day of Cyrillic script and Bulgarian culture

The President of the Federation of Transport Trade Unions in Bulgaria and councilor at Sofia Municipal Council Ekaterina Yordanova participated in the charity campaign collecting books for the future Public Reading Space in front of the National Theatre “Ivan Vazov”. The campaign launched on 24 May – the Day of Bulgarian Education and Culture. The initiative will replace the long since abandoned pavilion at the National Theatre Park, with a Sofia Municipality InfoPoint, part of which will become the Public Reading Space. Прочети още

May 24th is the brightest national holiday we have. It is uniquely Bulgarian, just as Bulgaria is unique for its script, its culture, its Enlightenment and all these traditions that we protect and pass on from generation to generation. Прочети още

FTTUB: We will not tolerate the harassment of our union leaders

Mass rejection of Uber women ‘jobs’ plan

A coalition of concerned organisations, led by global unions including the ITF (International Transport Workers’ Federation), has formed to express its shock over a ‘strategic partnership’ between UN Women and Uber, the ‘ride booking’ app provider. The coalition took the message to the floor of the 59th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW59) today, after Uber used the event to announce a plan to supposedly create a million jobs for women drivers.
