Members of Federation of Transport Trade Union in Bulgaria Young Committee participated in the International Youth Festival of Labor organized by the CFDT in Paris, France. The festival was held on the occasion of May 1 – International Labor Day and brought together under one roof over 5,000 youth participants and representatives of different trade unions and employers from across Europe.
On Easter eve, the Executive Director of BDZ Holding (Bulgarian railways) Vladimir Vladimirov, unilaterally and without advance notice terminated the contract of the leader of our organization at the holding – Plamena Zhelyazkova. Last year, the Austrian Trade Union Federation (ÖGB) launched a campaign calling for a massive tax reform in Austria. Last week the Austrian government finally agreed on a tax reform very much in the line of the campaign of the Austrian Trade Unions, “Lohnsteuer runter”.
The Austrian government reacted to the public campaign and proposals made by the trade unions. The ÖGB mobilised large parts of the labour movement for the campaign over the last months and collected more than 880.000 signatures demanding the reduction of income tax rates. After long negotiations within the Austrian government, supported by the experts of the trade unions, the outcome is a huge success for the labour movement as a whole. Прочети още
On 18 February FTTUB will participate in the Global action day under the motto ‘Hands off our right to strike!’, organized by the International Trade Unions Confederation (ITUC), International Transport workers’ Federation (ITF), Public Services International (PSI) and other international federations representing workers from various sectors.
ITUC has prepared an in-depth analysis of the legal grounds for the right to strike and the role of ILO, which can be read here. The right to strike has been guaranteed as every worker’s legal right ever since ILO’s Convention 87 was adopted back in 1948. Each state which has ratified an ILO convention is bound to observe its regulatioons. Regardless of this, for the last few years the employers have been questioning and undermining this key worker’s right and its legal foundations; and as of today, according to ITUC’s data, workers in 37 countries have been detained for protests or strike activities. Today, 12th of August 2014, the world celebrates the International Youth Day recognized as such by the UN resolution voted in 1999. In furtherance of this event, young transport workers from 115 countries gathered at the “Bells” area where they put a specially crafted bell on behalf of the FTTUB Youth Committee. The event’s slogan was “Echo in the future”. Young people from every continent – delegates of their unions at the 43rd ITF congress, Ms. Sharan Burrow – General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), Ms. Ekaterina Yordanova – President of the FTTUB and Ms. Veneta Serafimova – Sofia Municipal Council member participated for the bell’s installation. A day before the official opening of ITF 43rd Congress in Sofia, on Lovers’ Bridge near the National Palace of Culture the photo exhibit ‘This is my oath’ was opened.
The exposition is part of the joint activities of FTTUB’s Youth and Women’s Committees, supported by European Future Foundation, to eliminate violence against women at home, at work and in the society as a whole.By agreeing to become faces of the exhibition, FTTUB’s men, women and youth expressed their determination to turn into ambassadors of harmonious relations between genders. In less than a month before the Congress’s start two more related collective events took place:
In Varna a meeting of the youth members of FTTUB from West and East Ports and Urban Transport was held. It was also attended by the three trade unions’ leaders, the co-presidents of the Youth Committee of FTTUB and experts. The Congress’ s theme document, the main and fringe program and the cultural agenda were reviewed and discussed. A special attention has been put on popularising the Congress, with a highlight on the fresh youth’s ideas. The youth network will still serve for further discussions and preparations.
