The European Transport Workers’ Federation (ETF) and the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) today welcomed the decision of Romania’s Ilfov court to order the reinstatement of an unfairly dismissed trade union leader. The court decided on 19 March 2015 that the dismissal of the president of Sindicatul Aerolimit (the cabin crew union at Wizz Air’s base in Bucharest) was illegal and the company has to reinstate him. Last year, the Austrian Trade Union Federation (ÖGB) launched a campaign calling for a massive tax reform in Austria. Last week the Austrian government finally agreed on a tax reform very much in the line of the campaign of the Austrian Trade Unions, “Lohnsteuer runter”.
The Austrian government reacted to the public campaign and proposals made by the trade unions. The ÖGB mobilised large parts of the labour movement for the campaign over the last months and collected more than 880.000 signatures demanding the reduction of income tax rates. After long negotiations within the Austrian government, supported by the experts of the trade unions, the outcome is a huge success for the labour movement as a whole. Прочети още

An outcry raised by a coalition of trade unions and civil society groups has led UN Women to disassociate itself from a partnership with ‘ride booking’ app provider Uber just over a week after its announcement. The unions and NGOs had acted speedily to persuade the United Nations organisation to reconsider a strategic partnership with the company that would supposedly create ‘a million’ jobs for women drivers. A coalition of concerned organisations, led by global unions including the ITF (International Transport Workers’ Federation), has formed to express its shock over a ‘strategic partnership’ between UN Women and Uber, the ‘ride booking’ app provider. The coalition took the message to the floor of the 59th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW59) today, after Uber used the event to announce a plan to supposedly create a million jobs for women drivers.

During its Executive Committee meeting on 10-11 March 2015, ETUC adopted a Declaration in support of collective agreements and good working conditions in European aviation industry. The meeting was attended by Ekaterina Yordanova, president of FTTUB and vice-president of ETF and ETUC’s Women’s committee; Plamen Dimitrov, President of CITUB and member of the EC of ETUC; Eduardo Chagas, General Secretary of ETF and others, who unanimously supported the declaration.

The president of FTTUB Ekaterina Yordanova will open the event, and the Mayor of Sofia Mrs. Yordanka Fandakova will be an honorary guest. The event will be attended by union leaders, women activists, representatives of the Confederation of the independent trade unions in Bulgaria (CITUB), guests from the administration of Sofia Municipality, employers.
