Through the International Transport Federation, we call upon 20 million transport workers all over the world to join our appeal, commented FTTUB president Ekaterina Yordanova
On 16 April 2019, FTTUB Management Committee took the decision to join the global efforts for the reconstruction of the Notre Damme Cathedral in Paris.
FTTUB president Ekaterina Yordanova and the members of FTTUB Management Committee are calling upon their brothers and sisters from the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) with an appeal.
“Millions of people around the world are deeply disturbed by the devastating fire that nearly destroyed one of the world’s architectural symbols – the Notre Damme cathedral in Paris. So let us show our commitment to the global efforts and join in the reconstruction, each of us donating symbolically 1 euro cent for the renovation of Notre Damme.”
The building is a masterpiece of European Medieval art, one of the first Gothic cathedrals in Europe (its construction began in the middle of the 12th century), a cultural symbol of Paris and Europe, and a UNESCO world heritage site since 1991.
In an address to the International Transport Federation (ITF), FTTUB is calling upon every ITF affiliate and all transport workers to join us in this campaign.
“Friends, we are 20 million strong: let’s become part of a great Hope for a better world, and use our power for the victory of the Good! What happened in the late hours of 15 April is a loss not only for France and the French people, for Europe and European citizens, but also for the whole world and the entire human civilization.
This huge loss, a few days before Easter, is considered by many to be a symbolic call for unity, empathy and humanity, as it took place in the eve of the holiday that teaches us the miracle of the Resurrection. Let us forget our differences, let us unite and give a hand in the reconstruction of the Notre Damme cathedral, so she can be revived and shine again with all her beauty and glory!
Moments like this should serve as opportunities to unite people – regardless of their faith, religion and beliefs, because united we stand strong with the power to support each other. Even with a single euro cent only, but given from the heart and with thought, we can help create a positive change anywhere in the world!”
The proposal of FTTUB Management Committee is already an item on the agenda of the meeting of the Executive Board of the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) and is to be voted tomorrow. With the acceptance of the Bulgarian appeal, 20 million transport workers might get involved in the cause for the restoration of Notre Damme cathedral and the well-being of all people around the world.
