Cabin Crew Committee Meeting at ITF House in London

On 3 and 4 April 2014 at the ITF House in London was held the regular Cabin Crew Committee Meeting, Civil Aviation Section of the International Transport Federation (ITF). The meeting was attended by representatives of trade unions and professional associations from Australia, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Norway, USA, Turkey, Sweden and Japan. The Federation of transport trade unions in Bulgaria (FTTUB) was presented by Antonia Panayotova –an “International relations” expert.

During the first day Gabriel Mocho Rodriguez, Civil Aviation Secretary, acquainted the audience with the discussed topics and outcomes of the Global Dialogue Forum on the Effect of the Global Economic Crisis on Civil Aviation Industry, held at the International Labour Organization /ILO/ in February 2013. Recorded was the excellent work of Civil Aviation Section for the preparation and presentation of 7 ITF proposals towards the 38-th ICAO Assembly in Montreal, Canada – 24 Sep-4 Oct 2013.

Participants were updated on ICAO Cabin Crew Training Manual revision and Cabin Safety Committee work-plan. Present on the agenda was an update on the amendment to Article 10 of the Tokyo Convention of 1963.

Day two was dedicated to the “flags of convenience” phenomenon which is gaining impetus in civil aviation as well as in maritime transport. Discussed were some “creative” forms of employment and of organizing of operational activities in some low-cost carriers. Draft resolutions were adopted in support of union organizing campaigns for the cabin crew of Delta airlines and Virgin America airlines, and all participants expressed their solidarity through video recorded messages.
