Ekaterina Yordanova’s meeting with the Executive Director of the Road Administration – Dimitar Ganev

On 18.12.2013 the President of FTTUB Ekaterina Yordanova and Daniela Zlatkova, Executive Secretary, met with the Executive Director of the Road Administration – Dimitar Ganev, regarding a signal from FTTUB for the rowdy Dutch situation with Bulgarian truck drivers.
Bulgarian drivers employed at minimum wages from Bulgarian company, but working in the Netherlands under very bad and precarious working conditions, contacted FTTUB for assistance at the end of November. After more than a week stay in Roosendaal, the Netherland, with no job and no payment the drivers contacted the Dutch employer who told them that there’s no resources for fuel and no orders for execution. After this response, the workers refuse to leave the base until the payment will be done. Despite the intervention of the Dutch trade unions and media coverage an unsuccessful arrangements for partial payment and threats of physical violence followed in order to expel them from the base.
This case is not an exception from the daily live of the Bulgarian truck drivers. The project of the European Transport workers Federation (ETF) “CROSS-ROAD”, established a number of problems faced by Eastern European drivers on the European roads.
Mr. Ganev is committed that immediately inspection will be done to the Bulgarian company. He was also interested in the results of the project, which would be a starting point in the forming a better organization in the control on the roads.
Ms. Yordanova thanked to Mr. Ganev for the meeting and for his serious approach to solving the problems in the branch.
With regard of the further discussion of this case, and the overall problems of the international truck drivers, it was agreed that Tripartite meeting for road transport will be held at the end of January or at the beginning of February 2014.
